Our Story

About Ski Big Tupper

The mission of the Big Tupper Ski Area re-opening project is to provide a basic, no frills, affordable ski/snowboarding experience for individuals and families. The project at Big Tupper is a locally initiated, volunteer based, not-for-profit venture. Volunteers and community minded citizens are at the heart and soul of Big Tupper.

Big Tupper has been one of New York’s most popular ski areas. Located in Tupper Lake, with a base elevation of 2000′ and a 1,151 foot vertical drop, Big Tupper offers a refreshing Adirondack ski experience.

This season we welcome you to experience Ski Big Tupper, AGAIN!!    In addition to Chair Lift 2 and the Mitey Mite beginner lifts, our dedicated volunteers have worked hard to open Chair Lift 3.  This provides access to most all of the Big Tupper ski trails.  From beginner to expert, the ski experience will be a refreshing alternative.

About ARISE of Northern New York

Members of ARISE include business people, elected officials, organizations, and individuals who support the need for a vibrant economy. Our members believe that there has been an overwhelming amount of resources spent to protect the natural environment of the Adirondacks, with very little interest and resources, for the fragile economy.

We are concerned about the economic survival of businesses and individuals within the Park, and feel that we are at a tipping point where further declines in population and community health are at a breaking point.

  • Populations have been decreasing within the Park
  • Property taxes are rising at exponential rates
  • Energy costs are beyond many Park residents ability to pay
  • Dependency on government employment continues to rise, with no guarantee that they will continue
  • Housing has become less affordable
  • Young people have little choice but to leave the area for employment

ARISE supports economic growth within the Adirondack Park, while respecting the natural resources that make our area unique. This includes manufacturing, second home industry, and service industry.

We strongly support the Adirondack Club and Resort planned for the Tupper Lake area. The ACR project will employ hundreds of people during the construction phase, and beyond. The ACR will increase the tax base substantially, and will create residual businesses in Tupper Lake and the surrounding communities. It is a project that offers tremendous opportunity at a time when it is needed most.

It is time for an intervention that allows the project developers to move forward in a meaningful manner. We ask that you show your support in two very important ways:
